"Leads - To Buy or Not To Buy"
"Waiting until everything is perfect before making a move is like waiting to start a trip until all the traffic lights are green."
- Karen Ireland
Some companies offer the option of buying leads through themselves
or someone they have partnered with. Some companies charge you
a monthly fee to join, then expect you to purchase a certain level of
leads from them or their leads partner.
A questionably 'new' breed of opportunity is making a comeback, where
you join them - for a monthly fee - they will provide you with
leads and you can also bonus by giving them referrals that will join.
Strike One - You're OUT!
Buying leads can be like a ball game, but the strike-out rule changes
dramatically. You only get one chance at the bat. There are two
reasons for this strike-out rule causing you grief that can shorten
your marketing career.
The number one reason is spamming. It just takes one complaint.
Just one complaint that you approached a prospective lead without
their permission and you are history.
Every country in the world now has some form of spam law. There
is no logical reason to tempt the fates and become a statistic. Nor
is there any excuse for you not knowing about these laws.
Due diligence not only applies to how you choose a company, it also
applies to your knowledge base, your business acumen and your
consistent development in learning the rules of law and the Internet.
Reason Number Two
Where do the leads you buy come from? Have they been harvested?
Does the company buy them from some supplier and you trust the
leads management base as being honestly sold to you as targeted business leads?
I belonged to a team, within a company structure, and the team sold me leads at a fair cost. That is one of the reasons I believe you need to be
very careful about leads purchasing - the cost. If you cannot afford
them then do not look for a cheap supplier. Find another way to
garner honest targeted leads for your online business opportunity.
I was not so much new to online business operations, as I was a bit
too trusting of these people to supply me with legitimate leads. I
was gung ho to make those phone calls to each and every one of
them. I was all set to make my mark and come up rich for my
investment in time and money.
To my chagrin, these so-called targeted leads came about as a
result of these people responding to an ad for a job with various
companies. A good 75% of these leads I purchased were skilled
business people or graduates looking for employment.
How skilled a salesperson are you that you can convert someone
looking for a job to someone who will join your business? When
you three-way with your sponsor and they ask the big question and
you get a 'no' every time. When they tell you your opportunity is
not what they are looking for at this time, you hang up - you lose.
I bought those leads one more time to satisfy my curiosity as to
where my team leader was getting these leads and how. I called
every one of them myself. NOT to sell to them but to talk to them.
I wanted to know if the red flag that came up for me told me I
was working the wrong company, following the wrong leader, or
I was not prepared properly to deal with the mind set of the people
who responded to the original ads.
People are wonderful when you call them without the intent to sell
them your soul. If you have a fear of phone calling, try remembering
that. Talk to them as people first.
This time I asked the questions, the right questions. How had they
come to be on my list? What ad had they answered and what were
their expectations from answering that ad?
That is how I learned my first lesson in buying targeted leads.
They are all targeted in one way or the other. From your point
of view, they are targeted names that might be interested in your
online business. From their point of view, and this is what really
counts, they are targeting themselves to receive honest contact to
provide them solutions to their needs. Quite often the end results
for both of you are miles apart from the very beginning.
Because the company was a solid one, this team no longer exists.
The 'net smart' leaders who were training me the wrong way are
gone. And I am a smarter online marketer for the lesson learned.
The subject of buying leads is certainly much broader and far more
involved than is covered here. But the basic premise is still the same.
Know where your leads will be coming from. Know the people who
are selling them to you. Know your expectations. Know your skills
and weaknesses.
And bottom line? If there are no phone numbers you do not want
them in the first place. That should red flag you as to the honesty
of the supplier and the intent of the person who may have signed
up for more information.
You are running an honest online business. You need targeted leads,
and that means those people who respond have to want at least the
same thing. They need to provide the information that sets them as
truly interested in finding the right online business opportunity - and
that means providing the telephone number as well as legitmate
contact e-mail address and name.
If you are real in your search to buy legitimate leads, and they are
real in providing their full contact information, then you are both
on the same road to a successful conclusion.

Wishing you the Best of Success!
